The greatest physical trauma in my life happened almost two years ago from tripping over a rock.
I was born into the Third Culture Kid life, with my journey beginning in Saudi Arabia. With my parents being educators, my childhood was spent on various American International School campuses. I graduated from the American School of Bucharest and began a non-traditional journey through university. The solo transition back to Oregon at 18 years old was tough…to say the least. This eventually resulted in the greatest transition of my life - becoming a mother and discovering my passion for science and education. I graduated from Western Oregon University, and took Darian overseas to begin our international lives. Since Darian graduated in 2020, I have been rediscovering who I am while continuing my global nomadic journey. You can often find me hiking, exploring new trails and city streets, reveling in the beauty of our planet, eating and trying my hand at cooking diverse foods, and tinkering. I deeply value honesty, integrity, kindness, and the bravery to try new things; to push oneself to the brink of fear and failure.
This is my 15th year in education, 13 of which have been international. My journey began in Chengdu, China for three years, followed by a single year in Sarajevo, six years in Dubai, two back in the US and two in Hong Kong. The diversity of schools represented here has allowed me to explore MS math & science, HS science through AP biology, AP seminar, coaching softball, sponsoring environmental clubs, and various leadership positions. Some of my favorite work has been in curriculum development with NGSS and assisting departments in the transition through a standards-based journey. The masters in Educational Leadership I completed while in Dubai was coupled with my participation on the k-12 curriculum development team and HS science department chair. I have a nerdy obsession with curriculum development and implementation, assessment, rubric design and reporting. My journey into coaching began years ago in Dubai with NGSS and SBG leadership roles. I believe a coach is someone that builds others up and provides positive, non-judgemental support in the learning journey between educators. I am excited to officially step into the secondary coaching role at KIS and use my experiences through this lens.
