I am originally from North Carolina in the USA, but grew up as a Third Culture Kid in Malaysia and Indonesia during elementary and middle school. Growing up internationally I learned to appreciate the importance of cross culture communication and our interconnectedness. I enjoy exploring new cultures and learning from our similarities and differences. One way I like to explore a new place is by running. Whether I am running on a new path or with a group of fellow runners, I always try to find a new perspective that helps me see the world through a different lens. I am eager to embrace unique perspectives within the KIS community and learn alongside you.
As an educator of 15 years, I have found that each role, school and community have helped to shape the educator that I am today. I hold an undergraduate degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a masters from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Literacy Development and Special Education. I worked for 3 years in North Carolina public school as a homeroom teacher in Grades 4 and 5. I subsequently moved into the role of a reading specialist at the American Community School of Beirut. Most recently, I worked as the literacy coach in the elementary school at the American International School of Chennai.
From being an elementary homeroom teacher to a learning support specialist, I have found that relationships are the foundation for learning and growth.
