Dear DRAGONS
Welcome back! It’s going to be an awesome 2nd half of the year and a great Exploration. Remember, this is a time for you to stretch yourselves and try out some new things. Work hard and enjoy!
MS DRAGONS,
WELCOME TO 2024! Happy New Year!!!
As we enter the second half of the school year, remember there is still plenty of opportunity to be your best and bring your best. Set short-term and long-term goals for yourself to help you measure your growth.
We are kicking off January with two weeks of EXPLORATION! This is a great opportunity for you to take ownership of your learning and explore your interests. Make the most of this unique opportunity.
Formal Uniform: Make sure to wear your formal uniform on Monday, January 15, 2024.
Clubs this Week: We will continue with Q2 clubs this week. Next week we will begin the process of selecting Q3 clubs. Q3 clubs will begin after Exploration (Tuesday, January 30, 2024).
New Students: We have 10 new students joining the middle school this week. With us beginning with exploration, it will be a little bit confusing for them. Make them feel welcome in our community and lend a helping hand. We have all had first days and we all know they can be stressful.
Deli Reminders: Using the deli after school is a privilege, not a right. Please make sure to dispose of your trash properly. Food and drink should not be brought to athletics or theatre practices. Mr. Oren has been clear that WAY TOO MUCH trash has been left after Athletics events. This cannot continue. Make sure to keep our community clean.
Special Schedule: Over the next two weeks, we will have a special schedule for Exploration. Please see the section in this weekly titled Exploration. Your schedule will be posted there. For Monday morning, all students should go to their Advisory rooms at 8:25. Here is Monday’s schedule:
Hopefully, you had a relaxing and enjoyable winter holiday! We are all very excited about getting started again with Exploration. It is going to be a lot of fun, but the first few days will be a little bit challenging for you. Please go to your advisory on Monday morning, so we can prepare for the day's activities.
We hope that you had a wonderful break. We are looking forward to seeing you again and beginning the second semester with you. The next two weeks will be Exploration and we can’t wait to see how your Passion Projects turn out. Please report to your advisory on Monday morning, so we can prepare for the day's activities.
Hopefully, everyone enjoyed their winter break. We are coming back and heading straight into Exploration. Everyone should report to their Advisory on Monday morning.
This semester is a very important semester for grade 8 students. You will be hearing a lot about preparing for the transition to HS. In the coming weeks and months, students should pay special attention to the Student Weekly as the high school will have several important announcements about the transition to HS, course registration, and several other events.
This week is going to be busy! Remember that you will go to your Advisory room right away at 8:25 on Monday morning. Here is the schedule for the rest of the day.
If, at any time, you are lost or do not know where to go, there will be a Help Desk in front of the MS Office. There will be a teacher there to help you figure out where to go!
At 9:00 AM we will have a special guest speaker: Mr. Oh Young Soo of the NC Dinos (a professional KBO baseball player). He will talk about his life and career. Then there will be a chance to ask him some questions. If you have a question you would like him to answer, please fill out this form.
If you are in the Learn About Cultures strand, you will have another guest speaker after lunch as well. Check your email for more information!
The standings are updated and we have a new leader! The scores from the Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? have been tallied and the race has gotten tighter. Earth has moved into a slight lead, but with lots of competitions coming up throughout Exploration and the rest of the year, it is still any House’s game. The Harabang could be yours!
The standings are up-to-date! Here is the slideshow with name lists, game rules, and the standings. (If your name is missing please contact Mr. Boland right away and let him know.)
Q2 clubs will continue into the first part of January. Students will select Q3 clubs in January.
STUCO: STUCO would like to wish all students a Happy New Year. We hope you had a relaxing vacation and are ready for Semester 2! This semester, STUCO has some fun things planned: a social, talent show and White Day celebrations, to name but a few. Stay tuned for more information coming your way!

Students, semester 2 is HERE! If you have books that you have finished or that are overdue please return them. Make sure that you remember to read during this busy time of year. Grab a novel or a SORA Magazine. Reading Enriches the Brain!
For the last 16 or 17 Student Weekly’s we have covered the major sections of the School Dorm and Life Guide. This is our guidebook for life at KISJ and all students, parents, and faculty should be familiar with its contents. Please refer to your copy of the guidebook throughout the year. As we enter semester 2, we will have a new section of the week called Did you Read the Student Weekly? This will be a short quiz to see if students have been reviewing this weekly communication. All students must review this newsletter each week, so they are prepared for the week, and to make sure they are INFORMED. Here is Did you read the Student Weekly Quiz #1

Make sure to check out the MS Office for items that have been misplaced. We often have an overload of hoodies and PE shirts. Please remember to label your belongings.
At the end of each month, we remove all items.
Please continue to follow our uniform policy. Students are expected to be in the proper uniform at all times and to wear their uniforms properly. Non-uniform clothing should not be worn on campus during the school day.
