Dear DRAGONS
Happy Holidays! We hope that you are able to take this time to enjoy relaxing with friends and family. The Holiday Season is a great time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the year ahead. It’s also an important time to appreciate the wonderful things we have in life and to count our blessings. Please use this time to spread joy, to show love to your family members and friends, and to prepare to start next year with strong resolutions about how to be a better person and to live your best life. Happy Holidays!
MS DRAGONS,
As we head into the final week of Semester 1, I wish you all the very best of holidays. There have definitely been some ups and downs, but according to Santa’s count, we all come out on the nice list! As you look forward to Semester 2, Grade 6 will be thinking about moving into the middle of their middle school years. Grade 7 will start thinking about becoming 8th graders and all the extra responsibility that comes with it. Grade 8, well, high school is just around the corner. Semester 2 will be an exciting and nervous time for all of you. Remember to think before you act, and speak to an adult when you are feeling unsure.
Deli Reminders: This past week I received several messages from our Athletics Department regarding trash from deli products being left in the gym, outside the gym, and in other areas of the school. Remember in October, when we had to close the deli? Let’s all do our part to take care of our trash and remind others to do the same. There will be no more drinks or food allowed in the MS Gym! There is a strict, water bottles only, and they must be placed in a designated area.
Jeju Furey Gift Wrapping: Middle School did it again!!! What a fantastic job. In total, with the help of students, parents, and faculty, the middle school put together 441 boxes on Friday afternoon. Thank you everyone! A MASSIVE THANK YOU to the parents who stayed behind after we went to the musical and helped finish off some boxes and touch up some of the wrappings.
Special Schedule: This Thursday is a half day. We will run a special schedule. G6 has some activities being organized by the G6 parents. G7 and G8 have activities planned by STUCO. Please check this schedule to help you follow the day and be in the right locations. Dismissal will be at 1230 from the cafeteria.
Snow Safety: This is a friendly reminder that though it might exciting to throw snow, if there is any snow left from this weekend, make sure to leave it on the ground. Do not throw snowballs while at school.
Our Ancient Egypt Learning Celebration was great! We’re all very proud of the time and effort that you put into your work. This week we will wrap up Quarter 2 and begin to look forward to a new year of learning at KISJ!
In advisory we will be looking at the spirit of the holidays and coming up with New Year’s resolutions. Remember to continue to make good decisions this week, as we enter the last few days before Winter Break.
We will be doing some holiday things this week. Just a few more days! Make good choices!
We have one more week before Exploration!
Thank you to everyone who read the Weekly and filled out the survey right away! Your Strand Group will be announced in Advisory this week.
At this time, you should have submitted your Passion Project Plan to your advisor. If you needed to get your plan approved (Video Games, Cooking/Baking, Sports), it should be done. If you did not get it approved in time, you will be choosing a new project at the beginning of Exploration.
Now is the time to be thinking about what materials and resources you need. Do you need to order materials ahead? Do you know where you can find information? Come prepared on Monday, January 15th with everything you need to get started
What a SUCCESS!!
Earlier this month, we had some HS students come to the middle school and work with our 8th graders on coding. This was an Hour of Coding event that was also a successful cross-divisional activity.
Thank you all for your effort in the Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader Activity. We are still waiting to get some of the results from a few classrooms. The results will be posted in the Google Classroom as soon as they are submitted.
Here is the slideshow with name lists, game rules, and the standings. (If your name is missing please contact Mr. Boland right away and let him know.)
Q2 clubs will continue into the first part of January. Students will select Q3 clubs in January.
STUCO: We are excited to announce our upcoming Christmas events! On Thursday December 21st, we will have some fun activities, followed by a movie (The Polar Express) in the MS PAC. Students are encouraged to wear Christmas clothes! Check out these slides for more information about Christmas dress!
Service: We are looking into supporting local animal shelters and will also get in touch with the Red Cross for quarter 3. Thank you for your continued support!

Food Garbage In MS Gym
Food and non-water beverages are no longer allowed in the MS gym. If you are caught in the gym with food or a beverage that isn’t water in the gym while spectating an event, you will be asked to leave permanently. If any garbage is found left in the gym, student spectators will no longer be permitted to attend MS athletic events.
Any MS VB team member that is playing AT SJA on Monday or Tuesday will be released to the MS Gym at 3:45 PM.
Thank you to everyone who came out to see LEGALLY BLONDE The Musical JR! The students of the cast and crew greatly appreciate all your support, and we hope that you had a great time! Special thanks to the teacher production team! Unbelievable effort from Ms. Brett, Ms. Cox, Ms. Anderson, Ms. Shin, and Ms. Doucette-Pilles! Thanks for Mr. O’Driscoll and Mr. Shaw for the technical support.
LEGALLY BLONDE JR Cast & Crew: If you forgot anything backstage (clothing, personal belongings, etc.), please come collect those things as soon as possible. This week the ES Winter Arts music concerts will be performed in the PAC and your stuff could get lost in all the concert shenanigans.
PLAYWRITING FESTIVAL Playwrights: We will have a meeting after school on Monday, Dec 18, from 4 pm to 4:20 pm. Attendance is mandatory. Second drafts are due immediately after Winter Break, and if your second drafts are not completed on time, then your play will not be part of the Playwriting Festival. You may always contact Ms. Anderson or Mr. Dingle if you have any questions or need a little help. Once again, the date for your second draft will be immediately following winter break (Monday, January 15, 2024).
Grade 8 has completed some amazing ceramic artwork based on global masks and cultures. Having studied African masks, Mexican masks, Korean masks, and other cultures, the Grade 8 students have created amazing ceramic masks inspired by different influences and cultures. Grade 8 art students were also very brave in their exploration of clay-building techniques producing technically difficult and impressive pieces of ceramics. I am very proud of the amazing work of the Grade 8 Visual Art students.
Grade 6 has produced a ceramic artwork based on their studies of the coral reefs and ocean conservation. The final pieces are hand-built using clay building techniques and glazed to a very high standard. I am so proud of the amazing work of the Grade 6 students and their ceramic outcomes.
Students Winter Break is almost here. If you have books that you have finished or that are overdue please return them. Make sure that you remember to read over Winter Break, even if it is a SORA Magazine. Reading Enriches the Brain!
Each week for Semester 1, there will be a short Google Form asking questions about our school’s guiding document, The School and Dorm Life Guide. Students are expected to read and understand this document. If you complete the quiz, and get all the questions right, there might be a small reward for you! Here is Quiz # 16.
Make sure to check out the MS Office for items that have been misplaced. We often have an overload of hoodies and PE shirts. Please remember to label your belongings.
At the end of each month, we remove all items.
Please continue to follow our uniform policy. Students are expected to be in the proper uniform at all times and to wear their uniforms properly. Non-uniform clothing should not be worn on campus during the school day.
