Small group instruction options
Bring a tablet to small group instruction time. Introduce Khan Kids by facilitating the same lessons that you might do during whole-group instruction:
Read a book from the “Reading” tab and answer comprehension questions together.
Select a lesson and work through the questions as a small group.
Watch one of our videos introducing a math skill, and use manipulatives to work through related questions on the table.
As you become more comfortable with the app, start assigning different lessons to each small group of students. Guide them through these assignments as a group or monitor their attempts to work through the assignments independently. This time can also be used to work with a specific group of students struggling with a particular skill. This approach allows teachers to provide more individualized attention to students who need additional support.
Centers
You can offer Khan Kids as an option during centers or as a station rotation. Please assign lessons to students based on their learning needs and ask them to work on assignments during center time. Each week, review student progress and assign the next lesson accordingly. For more information about viewing student progress in the app, click here.
Alternatively, encourage students to use their personalized learning path, which can be accessed by tapping the big play button in the student view. Each student’s learning path automatically cycles through topics like math, language arts, and social-emotional learning. Content along the path surfaces at a level corresponding to how the child is doing in the app.
