Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE)
https://www.hkage.edu.hk/en-us
The application window for HKAGE is from Wednesday 26th November to Tuesday 16th December 2025. Students can apply when they are in Years 7-12. HKAGE does not accept applications from students during their last year of secondary school, so Year 13 students are not eligible to apply.
Students can apply to join through either a School Nomination or a Parent Nomination. HKAGE also accept applications from students if they have previously taken part in other designated courses. Please see the HKAGE website for more information about this.
If students want to be considered for a school nomination, they need to email KGV External Extension by 8am on Tuesday 9th December 2025. Please include the following information, which we will enter into the HKAGE system if you receive a school nomination:

Late applications will not be accepted as there will not be enough time to collect feedback from your teachers and complete the school nomination procedures. Students who miss the deadline to request a school nomination can still apply directly to HKAGE via the parent nomination if that deadline has not already passed. Please see the HKAGE website for details.
Please be aware that there are several stages to the application process, and that students will need to complete various screening assessments by HKAGE prior to being accepted as an HKAGE member. This is typically completed by the end of the school year.
Principal's Nomination:
KGV is able to select two students in Years 9-11 to receive the ‘Principal’s Nomination’ under two categories, 'Leadership' or 'Visual Arts' (one student per category). HKAGE will allow these students to skip the first stage of the Screening Programme.
For a student to be considered for the Principal's Nomination, as a minimum they must have strong academic scores/grades, strong attendance, no serious behavioural/disciplinary incidents, and either involvement in student leadership or a strong visual arts portfolio, depending on which category they are applying for.
If you wish to be considered for the Principal's Nomination, you will need to write a short application letter or create a short presentation/video explaining what you hope to gain from this course, how you plan to use your skills, your leadership or visual arts experience, and why you should be nominated.
Your letter can be up to 500 words long and must fit onto one page of A4. Presentations can be up to 10 slides. Videos can be up 3 minutes long. Please share your letter/presentation/video via Google Drive with Ms. Hitchings (ehitchings@kgv.hk) and set the access permissions to be viewable by anyone from within KGV with the link.
The deadline is 8am on Tuesday 2nd December 2025, which is the first day after the half-term holidays. Please make sure your full name, year and tutor group are included in the letter/presentation/video. This will be shared with your Tutor, Heads of Year and Vice Principal (and Visual Arts teacher where applicable) for their feedback before making a recommendation to Mr. Poulsum for his consideration and nomination.
Any student who chooses not to apply for the Principal's Nomination (or who applies for it but is unsuccessful) will still be considered for a School Nomination and will be able to go through HKAGE's normal application process.
