CEMC Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests 2025
The Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests (CSMC and CIMC) are two contests designed to give students the opportunity to have fun and develop their mathematical problem-solving ability – you can find past papers here: https://cemc.uwaterloo.ca/resources/past-contests?grade=All&academic_year=All&contest_category=23
Students in Years 13 or 12 are eligible to write the CSMC, and students intending to apply to the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics are especially recommended to enter.
Students in Years 11 or 10 or below are eligible to write the CIMC. Students in Years 7 – 9 should look through the past papers linked above before deciding whether to enter this specific contest, or wait for the contests targeted at their year group (these take place in Terms 2 and 3, and sign-up will open closer to the competition date).
Students who wish to be considered for nomination to the HKAGE’s International Mathematical Olympiad Preliminary Selection Contest later this year should consider taking part.
The CSMC and CIMC will take place after school on Thursday, 13th November 2025, and should finish around 6pm – you can read more about the format of the competition here: https://cemc.uwaterloo.ca/contests/csimc.html. The entry fee is $120 HKD, which parents will be invoiced for through our school’s ePayment system. Detailed logistical information will be sent to participants around 1 week prior to the Contest date.
If you wish to take part, please sign up through the Activities page on LIONeL by the Monday, 13th October 2025 deadline, and have your parents approve in LIONeL by the 14th October 2025 deadline. Please also email Ms Streeter if you're in Y11 or below but wish to sit the CSMC instead of the CIMC. If you’re having trouble signing up because of a clash with another CAS Activity, please click here to let Ms Ip know and she can sign you up manually.
