American Mathematics Competition 8 for 2026
The AMC8 is open to students in Year 9 and below and under 14.5 years of age, and is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple-choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills. Possible topics include but are not limited to counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition, some of the later questions may involve linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, and other topics traditionally covered in a beginning algebra course – you can view practice questions here: https://artofproblemsolving.com/wiki/index.php/AMC_8_Problems_and_Solutions
The AMC8 will take place after school on Tuesday 27th January 2026, and should finish around 4:40pm. The cost is $75, which parents will be invoiced for through our school’s ePayment system. Detailed logistical information will be sent to participants around 1 week prior to the Competition date.
