Below you will find photos of my co-curricular activities.
Over my four years at Keuka College I have been incredibly busy and have tried to take advantage of as much as possible. I have been an athlete for all of my four years, and a team captain for three of them. I was a three year member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. I am in four honor societies on campus, and am the first president for one of them (NRHH). I was on the original chartering committee to help create our chapter of NRHH as well. I have been heavily involved with residence life and the student affairs department here at Keuka College. After being a resident assistant for Davis Hall for one year, I helped create the Head Resident assistant position, and am the pilot for the position as well. During my two years as HRA, I have been the direct supervisor of Ball Hall and all of its residents. The six resident assistants in the building report directly to me as well. This para-professional role has helped fuel my love for working in a college, and I will continue this by using my experiences to help earn a dual masters degree in Student Affairs Administration and Public Administration from Binghamton University in the fall of 2019. my resume on the next page details much of the things I do on and off campus. I was also recently published in the NEACUHO Navigator. This is a regional newsletter for Student Affairs Professionals. Here's the link! issuu.com/neacuho/docs/neacuho_navigator_-_september_2018 (Page 10, link also below!). I am also an avid user of a typewriter. I won a national scholarship through the Sigma Beta Delta honor society I am a part of, and I feel my application stood out because of using a typewriter. Through my field period opportunities, leadership experiences and the service trips I have been on, I have learned a lot about myself and working with others. I have learned to be a servant leader (a leader who focuses on ensuring that their followers have the tools they need to be successful), and I have never looked back. Service is a major part of my Keuka College identity. I take the motto "Believe in What We Can do Together" seriously. I have been very fortunate enough to be able to participate in several service activities at Keuka. I have participated in the annual CSCY campus wide service day, the Turkey Walk in Penn Yan, I have been able to participate in creating Disney themed cards to send to children with cancer through NRHH, as well as the Angel Tree project on campus and in town, the Special Olympics in Rochester, NY to cheer on the athletes, helped the Habitat for Humanity program in Dundee, NY to help install insulation in a new home, and two Alternative Spring Break trips. I thoroughly enjoy helping people and that is why I aim to work with people for the rest of my life.
If I never went to college I would have never known about these positions and thus would have never found my true calling. I thank Keuka College for helping me become the person I am meant to be. Even if not selected as the Experiential Learner of the Year, I certainly feel like I have learned and grown so much over the last four years that that in itself has been the most rewarding thing in my life. Thank you for taking the time to look through my E-Portfolio. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at mottens@keuka.edu or ask during the interview. I would love to touch upon any and all of my experiences. Thank you!
