For this alternative spring break trip, we went to Touch of Nature in southern Illinois. We stopped along the way at the Tau House in Cincinnati (A home for all volunteers during their service in Cincinnati). In Illinois, we spent a lot of time learning about nature and outdoor education. We learned how to reclaim and build trail, and created some for the center. Along with this we learned about the historical purpose of the area (the birthplace of the Special Olympics), as well as learned about the Native history of the area. When we weren't doing these things, we were making yarn balls for the elderly in the area to use for arts and crafts. This was an amazing experience. We learned and utilized the 6 words of service (the who, what, when, where, how and why) and had a deep reflection every evening by a campfire to truly understand service and its many facets.
Attached below are the photos from our trip! It was roughly 11 hours of driving, but one of the best trips I have ever been on.
