Paying for College 101

Our KHEAA rep, Ms. Montanna McClain, will be here on Wednesday September 16th to do a presentation about preparing and paying for college. Please enter SK through the side gym doors. If you are unable to attend, below are resources she provided to help with understanding admissions, scholarships, grants, FAFSA, and many other important topics as seniors prepare for college. FAFSA is projected to open October 1, 2026 for the 27-28 school year.

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA is completed by current and prospective college students to determine their eligibility for student financial aid from the federal government. Many colleges and universities rely on the information provided in the application as well.

Girls - wear a spaghetti strap shirt so they can put the drape on shoulders without anything showing

Boys - wear a white t-shirt so they can have something on under the tux jacket

Ordering will be through Strawbridge.net. There will be a code to use.

Senior English Presentations

Ms. Robertson will give a presentation to all Senior English classes. You can view this presentation here. She will also give all students a "Getting In" book to help with college planning. If you are in an online English class or on VL and would like a book, please stop by the main office to get one.

Senior Week and Graduation Information

**Will be available in March/April 2027. Please see the 2027 Senior Week/Graduation Information document for details regarding the end of the school year for seniors and important graduation information.

Ordering Transcripts (Parchment)

Use this link to order your transcipt using Parchment.

Senior students will be emailed instructions on how to create an account with Parchment to order your transcript at the beginning of their senior year.

Don't forget to order your transcript when applying to colleges and universities! Your transcript will be sent WITHOUT your ACT/SAT scores unless requested. It is good to know the test-optional policy for the schools that you are applying to determine if it is in your best interest to send your standardized scores or not.

Final Transcripts will be sent to the college or university you are attending in the Fall. To order your Final Transcript, be sure to mark "Hold For Grades" when ordering your transcript so that it is released after final grades have posted to your high school transcript.

Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) is a organization committed to improve students' access to higher education. KHEAA administers several financial aid programs, including KEES money, and shares information about higher education opportunities. Students should be sure to create an account with KHEAA to keep track of their KEES money.

Scholarship Information

Many local organizations, including Simon Kenton High School, offers scholarship money to graduating Senior students each year. Below is our Simon Kenton High School Scholarship Hub where opportunities that have been given to the counseling department are posted throughout the school year. Scholarships are listed by deadline dates to help students and families see which deadlines are next. This is a living document, so scholarship opportunities are added when they are received by the counseling department staff.
