Personal Oregon Trail
Project
December 12 - 19
Happy Holidays!
December 12 - 19
I will acquire who in my family first moved to the Pacific Northwest.
I will discover when and where they came from and why.
I will explain how they traveled here and what they brought with them.
Why is your family living in Kelso?
How long has your family lived here?
What country (or Indian nation) does your family come from?
Mom's side?
Dad's side?
Who was the first person(s) in your family to come to Kelso?
Mom's side?
Dad's side?
Were they the first people to also come to the Pacific NW (Washington, Oregon, Idaho)?
If not, who were?
First watch the Edpuzzle video: Oregon Trail -The Story of US
Second, complete a Prewriting Chart over the weekend on one side of your family (Dad or Mom). In reading and watching a video about the Oregon Trail you will learn that the journey had many obstacles, especially weather. Families had various reasons for making the trip, and preparation was a major significance as well.
Finally, you will be creating two items due next Wednesday and Friday:
Make a map of your family’s Oregon Trail;
Pretending to be your family, you are going to write a journal entry about your family’s trip as a pioneer on their Oregon Trail. In other words, write a description of their trip using the first person point of view (as if you were there).
Remember to use your imagination and have fun, but be realistic (historical fiction). You will also be adding other details of the trip.
