Go Mariners!
At Huntington Middle School our Mission is to Educate, provide Support, and Expect all students to meet or exceed grade level expectations. This website was created as a means to help accomplish that mission by helping my students Learn History by Integrating technology and history in Networkable ways within the classroom that allows formidable Knowledge through Systems of classroom instruction and personal discovery. I call this method of learning LINKS (Learn Integrating Networkable Knowledge Systems). The idea of LINKS is the same idea behind Personal Learning Networks (PLNs) or Personal Learning Communities (PLCs) where using web tools such as blogs, podcasts, Google Classroom, Skyward, video & audio, wikis, and social networking sites to create connections with both others & our history. My classroom uses WICOR strategies as a foundation of high engagement teaching.
PLCs and WICOR extend learning by increasing student reflection on classroom assignments and enabling students to collaborate as part of a larger (even global) community. LINKS increases my student’s opportunities to ask questions and receive help compared to our normal daily face-to-face interactions within the classroom. It’s WEB 2.0, i.e., a second generation (interactive) website . I am dedicating this school year to incorporate LINKS as not only a means to our staff’s Mission Plan, but as a standard means of the 21st Century.
My classroom is also set up with a SMART Board (interactive white-board) and student Chromebooks (laptop computers) that allow each student to interactively read the text, search the web, take quizzes and surveys all from their desks that give instant feedback and results using Google Forms. Check out what all this site has to offer and get learning!
As you navigate this site you will notice tabs for both WA History & U.S. History. I use the two textbooks and put each chapter lesson into a Google Form with both content, media, and questions to create a much more interactive experience for the student. You may also find sub-tabs that contain videos shown in class as well as a place for student work examples. You will also be able to view what's ahead on the Calendar page and the About Me page you will find autobiographical information and videos about me and my family. You will also find a link to my blog page Frommy's World.
30% Daily Work (e.g., Google Forms, Edpuzzle videos, worksheets, reading & writing work, etc.)
30% Tests
20% Projects (may entail some homework or family input to complete successfully)
20% Participation (e.g., Surveys, Blog Posts, Video Notes, Class Discussion, etc.)
Note: Unlike many teachers, I have no cutoff date for late work. I except late work for all assignments/projects up until the last week of the semester. However, late assignments & projects are subject to a 10% deduction in points. If an assignment or project is over a month late deduction of points will increase exponentially.
Chromebooks are assigned and MUST be handled with care; plugged in the correct slot when done.
If you abuse this policy you will lose participation points and could be subject to a fine.
1.) Always come prepared & on time!
This includes having your 3 Ring Binder, Planner filled out, paper and pencil, and any student work.
2.) Be respectful of others…including ideas & property.
3.) No Cell Phone use, toys (or any other distracting materials), food or drinks (besides water) permitted in class (unless otherwise stated beforehand by me only).
**Gum is okay unless I see it, hear it, smell it, feel it, or taste it. Then you loose your gum privileges for the day.**
4.) Do your own work! Cheating includes anytime you copy (or try to copy) another person’s work and pass it off as your own. This includes copying something off the internet or a book without giving credit to the originator.
5.) You need a Hall Pass or written pass from the office to leave the classroom. You must have your Planner signed and dated to recieve a hall pass.
Failure to meet these requirements or any problems with behavior may result in emails or phone calls home, referrals to office, loss of privileges, after school or lunch detention, suspensions, and/or loss of points in the grade book. On a more positive note, have a great experience and fun filled year. Take advantage of the many clubs and activities that you can. Be involved with your school by going to Socials, concerts and sporting events . Your time here at Huntington will pass by before you know it.
