Read Chapter Four, Lesson Three "Culture and Society" using the textbook "Discovering Our Past: A History of the United States, the Early Years".

The colonial population mostly grew by way of immigration. Education was very important to the colonists. A new interest in religion called the Great Awakening swept through the colonies. As did a new interest in science and the arts called The Enlightenment. Finally, Freedom of the Press became an important issue.
