Term 3

 Week 5

Kia ora Base 3 whānau,

Welcome to our Term 3, Week 3 Newsletter! Time sure is flying by fast! There are still lots coming up this term, so please make sure you keep an eye out on Hero and our newsletters so that you don't miss any updates.

Attendance:
Our goal this term is attendance. We want to be the highest attending base in the school! So far this term our overall attendance is 87.2%.  We are aiming for this to be above 90%! Please support your child to be at school everyday and to arrive before the bell which is 8:30am.

Base EU:
On Monday, Whaea Elsie started in a new space called Base EU. If you have any concerns going forward, please email one of Base 3's teachers:

Ashley Patterson ashley.patterson@kauriflats.school.nz
Donna Roberts donna.roberts@kauriflats.school.nz
Mozeena Aslam mozeena.aslam@kauriflats.school.nz

Book Bags
We read with our students daily. It is vital for students to bring their book bags to school everyday in order for them to take a book home. Please remind students to put their book bags in their bags every night.

Uniform:
We understand the weather has been unpredictable, however, it is really important that children come to school wearing our correct school uniform. If students are wearing an incorrect item of clothing, we ask that they carry a note explaining why.

Staff Only Days:
Please remember there's no school on Friday 25th August and Monday 28th August.

As always, we thank you for supporting both kaiako and tamariki and look forward to celebrating many more successes this term.

Ngā mihi,
Base 3 kaiako

Cricket

On Tuesday morning, we had an amazing time with Coach Louise. She came in and gave us a Supersmash session on cricket skills!

We practised our catching skills, learnt how to make a nest and trap the ball with our thumbs to make a secure catch. We tried bowling down wickets and had a go at batting too.

Ambury Farm

On Friday 4th August, we went to Ambury Farm. We saw some pigs, a peacock, cows, roosters, rabbits and some other farm animals. We had 2 different sessions with Sean and Richard. We saw a sheep getting shorn so it could be ready for Spring. In the barn, we talked about the animals that live at the farm and they also told us about the electric fences around Ambury Farm. Sean showed us the oldest material in the world- felt. Richard show us how to use wool and make strings out of them.

I learnt that the horses can run really fast so the rangers have to take caution when they are taking care of them. Sahej

UC4L - Ice Cream Competition

Duck Island Ice Cream are running a competition for school students to design their own ice cream flavour. The top creations will be made by the company and the winners will be able to try their delicious ice cream flavour in real life. Base 3 got very excited at the thought of the possibly being able to eat ice cream and came up with some amazing ideas. Here are a few of our ideas below. Fingers crossed our Base has a winner!
