Term 1 Week 10

Kia ora Base 3 whānau,

Every time we begin to write our newsletter, we find ourselves in disbelief at how fast time is moving!
Now here we are at the end of Term 1 and we are so incredibly proud of the efforts and resilience that Base 3 has shown throughout the term. We've had lots of learning experiences, lots of wonderings and really built our curiosity for learning. We have loved seeing the spark of joy your tamariki get when they finally grasp a concept and seeing them step out of their comfort zones to try new things.

We hope that you and your whānau enjoy a safe and fun break and look forward to seeing you all back for Term 2!

Kind regards,
Base 3 Kaiako

Learning Photo Gallery - Week 7 - Week 10

UC4L

For UC4L this term, we have been learning about different elements. In groups we have begun exploring the world of Fire, Water and the Earth we live in! Check out some photos below!

To the left is a copy of our Innovation Model that we use to guide our UC4L. This term, Base 3 have been learning all about what this looks like so that when they create their own projects independently, they will be confident in using the cycle!

Earth UC4L:
In the Earth group, we were really curious about the Structure of the Earth and land formations. So to help us understand the layers of the Earth and how land formations are formed by different movements of tectonic plates we have begun exploring and doing research. Our next step is to figure out what problems our Earth might be facing and how that will affect land formations, so that we can begin the designing process! Check out the photos of us exploring the different movements of tectonic plates using playdough!

Water UC4L:
In the Water group, we were really curious about the creatures in the deep blue sea after exploring this website: DEEP SEA. So to help us understand what sea creatures are and what the ocean does to provide a home for them, we have begun creating our own research projects. Our next step is to figure out what problems sea creatures might be facing so that we can begin the designing process! Check out the photos of us presenting and researching!

Fire UC4L:
In our fire groups we have been finding out what fire is and what is needed to make a fire. We used firewood to investigate making an effective fire that will keep burning and found out how to use stones to help make it safe.  We looked at candle flames and made observations like scientists. We also learnt what to do if we saw a fire and how to keep ourselves safe. Here are some photos of us using our problem-solving and team work skills in UC4L!
