  • ** NOTE ** Teach parents how snow bibs and snow pants are used. They may not understand that they go over normal clothing.


  • First Day Shoe Fund provides one pair of free shoes for elementary children that attend summer school and qualify for free school lunch. When the April application for summer school is filled out, it will ask for the child's shoe size. If they miss their shoe pick-up during summer school, the First Day Shoe fund my have a final distribution the week after summer school ends (in 2017 it was the Wednesday after, from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Maple Street Middle School). Email firstdayshoefund@gmail.com for questions. Parent does not need to be present with child to pick up the shoes. Which ever adult is with the child will need to fill out a form for the shoes. Note that lines may be longer at the beginning of the day.


  • Clothes Closets in Kalamazoo:


    • The Kalamazoo FREE store (Sunnyside Methodist Church): The Free Store is a place where ALL people are welcome and ALL items are available completely FREE of charge. The Free Store of Kalamazoo will redistribute clothing and household goods donated by the community to the community for FREE. Run by the Sunnyside United Methodist Church, 2800 Gull Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49048. Contact 269-349-3047. In 2017 open only Tuesdays. Website is below.


    • Calvary Bible Church has a Care (clothing) Closet from which free clothing is distributed to members and people from the community who need clothes. This is done by appointment for those who are not Church members. These are donated items, and not all sizes may be available. The items are all clean and in good condition. On Monday morning there are always workers present. At any other time an appointment is needed. It is always a good idea to call ahead as the church has classes or Case Workers scheduled with clients coming in for job interview clothing. The church always distributes clothing to people who come to Calvary for the government Loaves and Fishes program. They are open for the Loaves and Fishes program Monday, Wednesday and Friday the last two weeks of each month.

  • Trinity Lutheran Church has a clothes closet. The Christ Clothes Closet is open every Thursday from 1-2:30 and serves anyone in need of clothing in any size. They accept donations of gently used clothing and shoes in all sizes year round and are always in need of new socks and underwear. They serve and average of 180 people a month.

    • KALAMAZOO DEACON'S CONFERENCE. CLOTHING AND PERSONAL SUPPLIES FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS(CLOTHING AND PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS)

    • Serves guests requesting personal hygiene items (shampoo, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, diapers, etc.) and household items (dishes, pots & pans, sheets & blankets, detergent, silverware, etc.) and clothing.

    • January - Salvation Army has 50% of during their Martin Luther King Jr. Day Sale

    • February - Look for a 99 cent winter clothing sale at the Salvation Army Family Stores of West Michigan on the second Saturday of February.

    • April - application for summer school includes request for new shoes (See above)

    • September - Labor Day: Salvation Army Thrift Stores typically have a 50% off clothing.
