Child Care Resources

Intermittent need for child care is a big problem for our refugee families. We have families where both parents work and they rely on the older children to supervise the younger ones. This set up can be a problem if the younger children have half-days of school or are sick, while the older ones are in high school. While there is drop in day care available, the hours are limited.

Drop-In child care is available for limited hours at Kalamazoo Drop-In Child Care Center: http://www.kdccc.org/p/hours.html

DHHS is able to help with child care costs. Depending on their income an individual can qualify for assistance with child care. They should be able to apply online: https://www.mibridges.michigan.gov/access/. One can go in person to DHHS also if assistance is needed in applying.
