Writing for Blogs

We are learning to: think about our goals for the week and write to reflect on our learning this week

Locate your blog on the class blog page and write an entry about your learning this week.

Think about one thing that you loved learning about or doing this week. What was it? Why did you love doing it? What did you learn from it? Who helped you with it?

Visit the blog of one other another person in the class and comment on their learning.

When you comment remember to: -

  • be respectful of other people's learning and feelings
  • be specific about what they did well and what you liked about it
  • make one recommendation if you can think of one

Individual Reading

We are learning to: read to enjoy reading using a variety of reading strategies

Learn

Choose a book you would like to read. This could be your Duffy Book, a library book, or a book you read online.

Read for 20 mins on your own - or to someone in your family. Practice your reading strategies when you get to tricky words - re-read on , read-on, break up the words, look for smaller words you know inside the words, sound out the parts you know.

Create

Design a book jacket for your book. Make sure it has:

  • the title and author colourful and clear
  • a cover illustration nice and big
  • a short summary (blurb) about the book on the back
  • a biography about the author on the flap

  • Take a photo of your book jacket and share it on your blog or send it in an email it to Mrs B.

Maths

Learn

  • Practice your basic maths facts for the week by testing yourself without looking at the answers
  • Solve this maths problem - Pigs and ducks. What materials can you use from home to help solve it?

Create

  • write another similar problem for someone else to solve.

Individual Reading & Writing

Choose one of the following books that you would like to read about Anzac Day and read it to yourself: Torty the Lucky Tortoise

First World War Mascots

  • Read it aloud a second time to one of your favourite teddies or a pet.
  • Think about the story. Why is it important? What does the story tell you about the Anzacs?

Create

  • Fold an A4 piece of paper and into into 4 frames (or you can do this digitally using a google doc on the computer)
  • Draw 4 pictures that show important ideas in the story.
  • Write a sentence underneath each one that explains what is important about each idea.
  • Edit your writing to check you have used correct spelling and punctuation.

  • Take a photo of your summary and share it on your blog or in an email with Mrs B.

Maths

Learn

  • Practice your basic maths facts from yesterday by testing yourself without looking at the answers
  • Play Maze 100 - to practice adding up to 100.

Create

  • Draw your own maze 100 game. If you are working at stage 5 you could challenge yourself to make a maze using numbers to add up to 1000.

Share

  • Give the maze to someone in your house and challenge them to play.
  • Write a blog post and show your maze. Was it hard to make? What did you learn?

This week's Science Experiment

How soap works

We are learning to notice how different substances react to each other

In this experiment, you'll learn how soap works by reacting against other substances.This experiment uses white milk, dish soap, and food colouring. The the milk fat interacts with the soap causing a dramatic reaction.

  • Complete today's handwriting challenge: lower case k and Capital K to make Kn- kn- sound.
  • Write out this phrase: Kings and knights kneeling neatly on their knees, like knitting kilts and kites nattering knowingly. Nice!

  • Write out these basic facts in your homework notebook

  • play the card game with someone in your whanau. You will have to teach them how to play : )
  • Write a blog post about how it went. Was it a good game?

  • Make a set of items out of dough. Bake them and then paint them.

Some ideas for your items might be: easter egg ornaments, a set of jewellery or hair accessories for your hair, accessories for a motorbike (number plate, keyring etc)
