During our science unit on, "How Plants Grow and Change", we conducted an experiment with celery and colored water. Students had to predict what they think will happen to the celery after one day and after one week. They had to record what they think will happen on a experiment sheet. These pictures are of our celery on Day 1.
Celery - Day 4
We observed the celery's leaves were turning red and were crunchy. We looked at the stem of the celery and noticed the little red tubes running inside the celery. We talked about why things were turning red. We concluded that the celery was sucking up the red water causing the leaves to turn red and the veins in the celery to turn red. We also concluded that the stem of the plant carries water through veins and takes it to the leaves.
