Trial and Error

Trial & Error:

Students will draw place holders and then separate number individually into the place holder groups until they have none left. Students will then check to make sure there are equal amount in each group and adjust if needed.

Important Information:

When students use trial and error as a strategy, their guesses are strategic and not random. Students may begin to use familiar facts to help get them close to the question they are trying to solve. If they are just under or over their target, they may adjust and try again to see if they are correct.
