Skip Counting

Skip Counting:

In Multiplication, students will skip count the amount of times needed to reach an answer. In division, students will choose a number to skip count by to see if they can reach the intended target number. Students will adjust as needed.

Strategies to Support Student Learning:

  • begin to encourage repeated addition and eventually the doubling strategy

  • when students begin repeated addition, have them use skip counting and then practice recording their work as an addition sentence to help make the connection between both strategies.

  • encourage students to build each group as they count using connecting cubes or other manipulatives
