Cht 3 - Scientific Measurement

This unit will examine the principles of scientific measurement and the metric system.The following learning objectives will be covered:

1. Write values for measurements in scientific notation and convert between scientific and decimal notation.
2. Identify basic SI quantities and their units.
3. Identify the basic metric prefixes and express any value in different metric units.
4. Convert measurements between metric and English units.
5. With the appropriate tools identify and use the appropriate metric units of measurement.
6. Explain the concepts of uncertainty, accuracy and precision in measurement.
7. Use significant digits in all measurements and calculations.
8. Calculate percent error and percent accuracy.
9. Explain, measure and work with density of various objects.
10. Use dimensional analysis and conversion factors to solve problems in chemistry.
11. Build and/or read a graph to make interpretations related to its data.
