Week of February 9-12

Bible: In the upcoming week students will continue their unit about Church History, have a Friendzy lesson, and participant in our Winter Olympic enrichment week. 

Friendzy: This month’s Friendzy focus is KNOW YOUR LIMIT! 

It teaches us about the importance of setting healthy boundaries by listening to our mind, body, and heart so we live within our limits and thrive. We will use Psalm 16:5-6 ,“Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” 

We are created to thrive within specific physical, emotional and spiritual boundaries.  When we help students understand these God-given limits, we are guiding them toward safety, wisdom and the true freedom that comes from living within God’s will in all of our relationships.

Targets:

This week in math we will wrap up our unit on chapter 7: functions. We will review the following vocab words; input, output, dependent, and independent variable, as well as how to describe graphs and distinguish between linear and nonlinear functions. We will assess at the beginning of the week before starting our next unit on exponents.

Algebra

Targets: 

This week we will continue Chapter 6B: Recursive and Explicit Sequences and Equations. We will continue working with solving for x when in an exponential equation. We will learn the difference between recursive and explicit equations and distinguish between linear and exponential sequences and equations.

Language Arts 

Targets: 

This week, students will be working on their informational writing on WWII topics. Students will be drafting the two articles while following conventions of informational writing (topic sentences, in-text citations, etc.).

Homework:

• Rough draft of first paper due on Tuesday (Friday & Monday work time in class)

• Rough draft of second paper due at end of class on Thursday (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday work time in class)

Assessment:

• Vocab quiz on Thursday

Science: In the upcoming week students will be finishing their lab unit on chemical reaction ratios with a couple of excursion activities. We will start reviewing for our upcoming assessment too.

Social Studies: We will begin our week by discussing Shiloh, and how it led to the gradual collapse of the Confederate forces in the western theater of the Civil War.  We will then have a conversation about the Frederick Douglass chapters students were required to read.  Finally, we will focus on some of the turning points of the Civil War in both the East and West.

Assignments: Frederick Douglass chapters 5-8 due on Tuesday, 2/10/26.
