Week of December 1-5

Bible: In the upcoming week students will continue their unit on Spiritual Disciplines. We will read testimonies of believers who have used spiritual disciplines to strengthen their own faith and the faith of others. We will focus on the discipline of personal time with the Lord

Friendzy: We all have times in life when we feel stressed and anxious. When we are stressed it affects our minds, emotions, and bodies. During this month’s third Friendzy unit, we will be equipped with tools to use as we work through stress and uncertainty as it comes.  Our Friendzy focus this month is “Stress Less—Breathe Easy.” We will be studying Matthew 6:26-27 and 1 Peter 5:7 as our Biblical anchor points this month.

Math

Targets:

This week in math we will start a new unit on Chapter 2: Transformations. We will be working with shapes (mainly triangles) and learning the various graph transformations - dilations, rotations, reflections, translations. Students will learn how the verticies coordinates change based on the transformations and how the shape is affected.

Algebra

Targets: 

This week we will continue our unit on Chapter 5, systems of equations. Students will learn three methods for solving systems: Solving by graphing, substitution, and elimination. Students will also be familiar with special situations where we may see infinitely many or no solutions. Towards the end of the unit, we will learn how to represent all the possible solutions to given systems of inequalities. This will be our last unit covered in the "semester format", so students can expect a semester 1 exam following this chapter.

Language Arts 

Targets: 

This week we will begin our nonfiction reading unit. We will be reading Four Perfect Pebbles by Lila Perl and Marion Blumenthal Lazan, a true story about a family who was sent to a concentration camp during the Holocaust. Throughout this unit, we will be building our knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust in order to better understand the story.

Science: In the upcoming week students will be completing air pressure and engineering challenges. We are focusing on the Habits of the Mind - critical and creative thinking.

Social Studies: We will discuss the War of1812, and why it resulted in a tie.  We will also discuss how much the United States was unprepared during the war, and why the United States performed so poorly.
