Weapon Detection System will be installed and
operating at The Phoenix
This will make our school safer and that is our priority.
All students, staff and parents/guardians that are entering the building will have to walk through the system.
There will be one located in the front and one in the back of the building.
This includes parents/guardians that enter the building at any point during the school day.
We will be practicing with the students to insure they understand the process.

Literacy & the Library
Welcome back from spring break! As we head into the spring, we begin to prepare for state testing, book returns, and spring cleaning.
All library books will be due on May 17th. This year we are pushing back the due date so students will be able to have their books for a longer time, especially after Chromebooks have to be collected. At this time, we encourage you to start looking for any books you may have checked out, and if you are finished reading it, go ahead and turn that in to get another book. Students will be without their Chromebooks for several days and may have some downtime during testing, depending on their schedule. This would be a great time to check out some of the COOL books we have in the library!
Warmer days are finally near! Our literacy suggestion for April is to read outside. Reading outside is a calming way to practice mindfulness. There is nothing better than sitting outside, soaking up some rays, listening to the birds, all while reading a good book. Take a blanket to spread out and soak it all in and let nature begin its calming. This is a great way for families to spend time together too. You can even take your dinner outside to have a picnic, followed up with some reading. Louisville has many wonderful parks, and did you know you can do this at any of the Louisville Free Public Libraries, too?? Now, relax and enjoy!

Middle & High School - Social Security Numbers (SSN)
This is critical for all students.
Did you know that thousands of students don't receive free scholarship monies, often because they are just missing thier Social Security Number.
Over 54% of JCPS students do not have a social security number listed in Infinite Campus. Without a linked SSN, students cannot earn KEES money.
What is KEES Money?
Beginning this month, JCPS families of 9th and 12th grade students may receive a call from Family Scholar House. JCPS has partnered with Family Scholar House to communicate with families about the importance of KEES money.
Family Scholar House WILL NOT ask for personal identifying information and will direct families to contact schools for additional information and support.
Family Scholar House staff will identify themselves as calling on behalf of JCPS.
If you have questions or would like to contact Family Scholar House directly, you can contact them at 502-584-8090.
Who do you give the information to? Calli Hagan, The Phoenix Records Clerk, 502-485-7700. She will connect your students Social Security Number with the KEES money.
8th Grade Field Trip to Kentucky Kingdom
8th grade students will be taking a field trip to Kentucky Kingdon at the end of the school year
