Autism Awareness Community Engagement Night

The Phoenix School of Discovery would like to invite you to our Autism Awareness Community Engagement Night on April 23rd from 5:30-7:00 pm at The Phoenix School. We will have student presentations, parent resources from around our community, a special guest speaker, and light refreshments.

The Louisville Mayor Visits The Phoenix


Mayor Greenberg and wife, Rachel visits The Phoenix.


Juniors Violet Stines and Madeline Danak were selected to participate in Youth Ambassadors Leading Louisville (Y.A.L.L.), a new program out of the office of the mayor.

Senior Graduation Dates

Option 1 - Durrett Auditorium (Male HS) Tuesday, 5/28/24 4:00 P.M.

Option 2 - Durrett Auditorium (Male HS) Thursday, 5/30/24 12:30 P.M.


Option 1 will remain in effect pending there are no more school closings, making the last school day for students May 24, 2024.

Option 2 will be used if the school year is extended by one day (making the last school day for students May 28, 2024). 

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

Tentatively, the 8th grade promotion ceremony will be on the May 24th at 9:30 AM in The Phoenix Gym.

Middle & High School - Social Security Numbers (SSN)

This is critical for all students. 


Beginning this month, JCPS families of 9th and 12th grade students may receive a call from Family Scholar House. JCPS has partnered with Family Scholar House to communicate with families about the importance of KEES money.



Who do you give the information to? Calli Hagan, The Phoenix Records Clerk, 502-485-7700. She will connect your students Social Security Number with the KEES money.

Seniors and Early Graduates - FASFA

FASFA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid - determines your eligibility for college-related financial assistance.

At The Phoenix - Friday, March 22nd at 9:30 in the cafe will be our day to have all seniors and Early Grads fill out their FAFSA.(They have already had Sarah and Kelly present how to fill out their FSA ID part. pre-requisite to FAFSA.)

 

Sarah Shaaban and Arianna Del Toro from JCTC will be presenting, as well as Kelly Smith from KHEAA.

 

We do this every year, usually in November, but because of the reconstruction of the FAFSA website, it has been delayed this year.

March is Women’s History Month;  to celebrate the library challenges you to read a book or article about a woman that overcame challenges to accomplish her goals. In the library, we have books about Malala, Anne Frank, Simone Biles, Jane Goodall, and more. 

 

Literacy @ Home -  When your child has read any text, ask them to “Gimme 5”. This means to ask them who, what, where, when, and why. For example, who was the story about, what were the important events in the text, where did the events take place, when did the events take place, and why did the events occur.

Student Applications 

Student applications are expected to open March 18 for priority students. General registration opens on April 8.
Registration closes for all students on April 12, 2024. 

The Phoenix Extended School Services (ESS) Program

Every Wednesday, 3:30 p.m-5:30 p.m., In-person at Phoenix

 

The purpose of ESS is to help students improve on assignments and skills by offering extra time and instruction in Math, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. ESS is taught by Phoenix certified teachers -- many of whom are your student’s classroom teachers.

 

ESS is every Wednesday, March 6 to May 8, from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m., in-person at Phoenix. Here is the Phoenix ESS Schedule 23-24 which includes grade levels, room locations and teachers.

 

Transportation home is not provided. Students must be picked up from Phoenix at 5:30 p.m.

The CDC recently released new recommendations for respiratory viruses. We typically see COVID, flu, and RSV, but please know that this protocol also includes measles, meningitis, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, TB, chicken pox, monkey pox, hepatitis A/B, salmonellosis, and shigellosis.

 

Isolation Period for COVID/Flu/RSV

If the student or employee is positive for a reportable communicable illness, the isolation period will be determined by Health Services staff and depends on several factors including:
