JCPS Transportation 24-25

As many of you know, due to the nationwide bus driver shortage, Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) does not have enough bus drivers to cover all routes and get all our students to school on time each day. Students have missed millions of instructional minutes this school year due to the bus driver shortage.

In an attempt to equalize the number of drivers with the number of bus routes, the Jefferson County Board of Education has approved a plan that will continue transportation services for the overwhelming majority of students who request it in 2024-25. However, the plan eliminates JCPS bus service for some students next school year.

The Board approved an option to discontinue transportation services to all magnet and traditional schools, with the exception of high schools with free- or reduced-price lunch enrollment at or above 75 percent. At this time, Central High School and Western High School meet that threshold.

Here’s what the transportation plan means for students next school year: Students who will have access to JCPS-supplied transportation

Students who will no longer receive JCPS-supplied transportation

If your student will no longer receive JCPS transportation as outlined above, your principal will send you follow-up information next week. We will also provide information on a stipend program for families of students who no longer receive JCPS transportation.

Literacy & the Library

Welcome back from spring break!  As we head into the spring, we begin to prepare for state testing, book returns, and spring cleaning.

All library books will be due on May 17th. This year we are pushing back the due date so students will be able to have their books for a longer time, especially after Chromebooks have to be collected. At this time, we encourage you to start looking for any books you may have checked out, and if you are finished reading it, go ahead and turn that in to get another book. Students will be without their Chromebooks for several days and may have some downtime during testing, depending on their schedule. This would be a great time to check out some of the COOL books we have in the library!

Warmer days are finally near! Our literacy suggestion for April is to read outside. Reading outside is a calming way to practice mindfulness. There is nothing better than sitting outside, soaking up some rays, listening to the birds, all while reading a good book. Take a blanket to spread out and soak it all in and let nature begin its calming. This is a great way for families to spend time together too. You can even take your dinner outside to have a picnic, followed up with some reading. Louisville has many wonderful parks, and did you know you can do this at any of the Louisville Free Public Libraries, too?? Now, relax and enjoy!
