Special Area Teachers

I am the music teacher here at Norton. Most everyone calls me Mr. A! This is my 17 year teaching and this is my 7th year at Norton! I have a Bachelor of Music Education and Masters in the Art of Teaching from the University of Louisville as well as my Rank 1 and being Nationally Board Certified Teacher. I also have a Level III Orff Certification from the University of Kentucky as well as other courses and endorsements in Orff Schulwerk training.

My wife and I have 3 incredible children that are in elementary, middle, and high school! When I’m not teaching, you can find me cheering them on in their various activities, coaching or running! I love traveling, being outside, and training for marathons and endurance running. Looking forward to a great year!

Hello! I'm Mrs. J. Boyd and I'm the S.T.E.A.M. Teacher at Norton Elementary. "STEAM" stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. I'm part of the Special Area Team. I've been with JCPS since 2002 and began as a regular ed. teacher, but am having a blast exploring the world of STEAM. I coach the Robotics Team, which uses VEX IQ Robots. We participated in state championships for the past two years and one team took home the Judges Award last year! I coached STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) and our most recent project placed 2nd at the State Championship! In class, students will be exposed to the Engineering Design Process, Digital Citizenship, Digital Art, Google Workspace Tools like slides, spreadsheets, and drawings, and Computer Science (coding).

My husband and I have two teenagers that attend Eastern High and both are busy athletes. My daughter plays volleyball and my son is a swimmer. We also have two adopted dogs named Murray and Sky. I'm a military brat, am half Korean, and have lived abroad. I attended the University of Louisville where I attained my Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Teaching. Go Cards! I enjoy spending time with my family, belting out tunes in the car, satisfying my cravings for different ethnic foods, and binge watching a good show!

I am originally from Belgium and I grew up speaking French. I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Louisville in 2009. I have been teaching French for sixteen years. I have taught middle school as well as high school. This will be my 5th year teaching French at Norton Elementary. I am thrilled to grow our French program. Every year, Norton students become more proficient in the French language and learn about the cultures of the French speaking countries.

My husband and I have four children. We have three sons and one daughter. We also have a Goldendoodle named Finn. I like to read, swim, spend time with my family and travel. I look forward to having a great year with our Cougars!

I have taught Physical Education for 31 years. This is my 26th year here at Norton Elementary. I love this school! I really enjoy teaching students the aspects of how to live a healthy lifestyle, through exercise and nutrition.

I like challenging students to grow physically, mentally and emotionally by teaching them games, sports and other activities that encourage them to demonstrate positive character traits. I teach fitness; however, I teach students how to respect one another that will lead them to be a positive influence on their community.

I am from Louisville; KY and I am a product of JCPS. I attended The University of Louisville where I earned my bachelor's degree in physical education. I received my master's degree and Rank I from the University of Indiana Southeast.

I am married to my beautiful wife Lauren, who is an art teacher with JCPS. We have two children and two dogs. I enjoy camping, fishing, hunting, horse racing and supporting the University of Louisville in all sports. But most of all, I am proud to be a staff member at Norton Elementary. Go Cougars!

This will be my 16th year as the Librarian at Norton Elementary and my 26th year as an employee of JCPS. I have loved getting to see all of our Norton students grow as readers and being able to help our Norton students to select new books from the Library is always a joyful part of my day. In my spare time, I LOVE to read, spend time with my two wonderful children and to travel each summer break.

This is my tenth year in JCPS and my eleventh year teaching. Previously, I taught at Meyzeek Middle School and Anchorage Public School. I was also the lead summer camp instructor at the Speed Art Museum. I grew up in Louisville and graduated from the University of Kentucky with my Bachelor’s in Art Studio. I studied illustration at Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, FL and received my Master of Arts in Teaching Art Education from Eastern Kentucky University.

In addition to teaching, I work as a Graphic Designer and freelance artist for a variety of projects and publications. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family. My husband is also a teacher in JCPS. We have two daughters, Stella (7) and Sloane (4). They bring me so much joy!

I believe teaching is an art form unto itself which requires a great deal of creativity, patience and dedication. As an educator, I want to take the fear out of art and assure students that there can be more than one solution to a problem. This assurance fosters confidence to attempt new things without the fear of failure. It is my goal to assist your child in reaching their full potential. I am so proud to be a Norton Cougar!
