Multilingual Teachers

I am overjoyed to be a part of the Norton community! I bring to Norton 12 years of experience in education. For the first 6 years of my career, I was a classroom teacher in 1st and 2nd grades. In 2016, after receiving my Masters degree in English as an Additional Language, I accepted an international teaching position and taught overseas for an additional 6 years. I worked primarily with language learners in full English immersion classrooms in Colombia for 2 years and in Vietnam for 4 years! Collaborating with educators from all over the world and living in a culture different from my own provided the perfect experience for personal and professional growth. This foundation aids my work as a support teacher for linguistically diverse students and families here at Norton! When I’m not in school, you can find me with my family, friends, and my cat, Thomas. I love riding my bicycle, being in nature, and traveling to new places, near and far.

This will be my 19th year in education, and my 4th year teaching here at Norton. I began my teaching career in Buffalo, NY and moved to Louisville in 2008. Prior to becoming a support teacher for multilingual students, I taught Spanish at both the middle and high school levels. Working with elementary school language learners is definitely my favorite!

I have my Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Education from John Carroll University as well as a Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Buffalo. I am currently participating in the LETRS Professional Reading Academies to earn my Rank 1 in foundational literacy. My husband and I have two daughters. When I am not at school, I like spending time with my family and friends. Some of my favorite hobbies include exercising, reading, and walking my dog. Having grown up in Buffalo, I am a big Bills fan and enjoy watching football on Sundays. I love being part of the Norton community!

I am Madhumathi Selvaraj, a Bilingual Associate Instructor at Norton Elementary School, since January 2023.I hold degrees in Science and Hindi along with Educational Specialist course. I am pursuing my Master of Arts in Education with TESOL. My teaching journey spans 8 years in India, guiding students up to the middle school level. Beyond the classroom I have volunteered at the Louisville Hindi School, sharing my language proficiency as a dedicated Hindi teacher. I am also a passionate Dance coach and trained diverse groups (kids & adults) for Community events. On the family front, my husband works for Humana, and we have two teenagers, one a Freshman and the other a senior. My love for pets and art holds a special place in my heart.
