JCPS uses Suicide Prevention materials through Erika's Lighthouse, a non-profit whose stated mission is to "make sure no young person feels alone in their depression." Students and Parents can create a free account and use the resources provided by them.
Per state law (House Bill 51-2010), middle and high school students must receive suicide prevention awareness information by September 1 of each school year. Schools have until September 15th to complete make-ups for students that were absent during the scheduled training dates. All school staff must complete a training of their own each year as well.

Safe Place is a national youth outreach and prevention program for young people under the age of 18 in need of immediate help and safety. As a collaborative community prevention initiative, Safe Place designates businesses and organizations as Safe Place locations, making help readily available to youth in communities across the country. Safe Place locations include: libraries, YMCAs, fire stations, public buses, various businesses, and social service facilities.
