SEL

It is my goal for all kids to feel safe and welcome in the Plessroom.  I try to build a classroom that is truly shared with kids.  They help build it and we vote on ideas and structures.  I have places in the room for kids to both find materials and take breaks.  Along with this, we work continuously to build a collaborative, supportive environment between all members of the community.

The Second Step curriculum along with the Brainwise strategies presents just in time skils for kids to help them navigate social emotional issues that come up at each age.  Students will learn skills and apply them in four areas; Growth Mindset, Emotion Management, Problem Solving, and Empathy and Kindness  

We try to read a picture book every day.  Not only does this allow us to practice advanced literacy skills on shorter readings, but it also allows us to embed SEL concepts in ways that are approachable and engaging.
