Reading

All classes at Kyffin use Into Reading as our basic curriculum.  This science based content combines readings with spelling, fundamentals and more.  Students receive a 'My Book' which gives them their own copy of all readings and can show progress and learning on a variety of normed assessments.

I like to supplement the basic curriculum with appropriate stories from Common Lit.  This gives students a wider opportunity to apply their reading skills and opens up a diverse variety of stories and articles.  We also read books in book clubs with guided discussions.

I love to read out loud to kids and we always have a read aloud book we are working on.  As well, I am a memeber of the picture-book- a- day club which encourages teachers to use high quality picture books as examples of reading concepts as well as SEL support.
