ePortfolio Integration: Course and Curriculum Initiative
Reflecting campus priorities to support equitable access to engaged learning for all IU Indianapolis students, the Institute for Engaged Learning (IEL) will focus the 2025-2026 academic year funding to support ePortfolio integration at the course level. The goal is to increase, improve, and sustain ePortfolios as part of the curricular structure assignments and activities in a course or series of courses. Given this priority, we seek new and veteran faculty dedicated to implementing ePortfolios in new ways or deepening/transforming their ePortfolio-engaged initiatives in credit-bearing experiences. For applications that meet these criteria, the IEL will offer support through additional funding streams, summer/faculty development session, communities of practice [CoP], and online resources.

Attribute: Students integrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions acquired during their previous coursework | As the capstone course in what is a creative major, our students do not have anything tangible to show potential employers that represents what they have learned throughout their educational journey here at the Kelley School. While it might seem somewhat unorthodox given the structure of these workshops, my ultimate goal is to reimagine the Marketing Strategy course into a capstone that utilizes an e-portfolio as a final deliverable for our graduates. So, not only would out students demonstrate the knowledge acquired over their tenure here, but they would also have a concrete, professional artifact to present to employers, evidencing both their academic journey and their readiness for the evolving demands of the workforce, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence. The e-portfolio will become a differentiator for our graduates.
The reimagined capstone/e-portfolio course would focus primarily on the technology but also incorporate elements of the critical thinking and teamwork competencies. Demonstrating solid skills with the technical components of AI will be an increasingly important skill as AI becomes a more integral part of the marketing profession. Students will be expected to have a solid grasp of its capabilities when they graduate. They will also be expected to exercise critical thinking when evaluating the output created by any generative AI tools that they use. I envision the portfolio including both individual and team-based projects. The marketing faculty spoke with an advisory board consisting of employers who hire our graduates and aside from the technical proficiencies they expect our students to have, they also stress the importance of teamwork. My vision for the class is to meaningfully integrate these competencies into an impactful class that will help our students gain a competitive edge in this challenging environment.
