The KEY IDEA for AP World History is to learn, understand, and interpret different societies throughout recorded history.
The PIECES system is a great way to organize and compare different societies. We will be using this system all year, so it's important that you develop mastery of this system.
Please view this slideshow and familiarize yourself with each theme. Focus on the Guiding Questions - you will need to be able to answer them for all societies we cover!
Click on the button below and fill out the chart, using the PIECES system. Don't stress about having the PERFECT answer, this is really just a warm-up exercise for you to begin to learn this system!
When you hear the question, Who is the greatest author of all time, without pausing, what name comes to mind?
On this Padlet, write the name of ONE of the most famous, greatest authors of all time. You can put the name anywhere. I will rearrange them before we discuss. You can like others' choices, but you have to come up with your author's name, also. Debrief w/ columns.
Return to Blue/Gold group: Discuss 'What is Literature?" and assign What is Literature Edpuzzle via Google Classroom.
Here is a NOTES ORGANIZER that you will find helpful. The most important feature is the PIECES table at the end!
Write under those titles - and I've found that bullet points are the best! This is really an exercise in how to find the most essential material from the textbook. The "Boxes" system kind of forces you to use the headings in your notes.
If you'd like, you can just print up these notes and hand-write them in.
The trickiest part is this: You aren't doing this for ME. You're doing this for FUTURE YOU.
All your schooling life, you've succeeded at giving the teacher what the teacher wanted you to do.
In our class, for your notes, we want you to give yourself what you need for future reference/remembering.
While in Blue/Gold synchronous MEET: Search on Google for First Literature or Oldest Book or The Oldest Writing in the World. Try two or three different search terms. Type findings into chat. What titles do you discover? Do we all find one answer? Can there be more than one "oldest book"?
We'll watch together a 4-minute Babylonian creation myth video. In your base groups, discuss why humans tell creation stories AND other creation stories that you know.
Return to the large group to share.
Mr. R. reads aloud a creation myth. Discuss vocabulary and questions together. Complete Babylonian Creation Myth questions individually via Google Classroom assignment. Due Monday before classes start.
