Hello and welcome! I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you this year and learning a lot together about the broader world in which we live. This is my 25th year teaching, 24th at Kennedy. I currently teach this course as well as the APWorld/Literature Interdisciplinary, World History, and U.S. Government.
I earned my Bachelor's degree at the University of Minnesota and my Masters at the University of St. Thomas. I've also attended UMD, Normandale, and Harvard. My wife works at Kennedy (you may have had her last year) and we have two children, one in junior high, one in high school. I really enjoy travel, cooking, reading, and spending time with family and friends. I'm excited to get to know you this year!
Hello 10th graders! Welcome to learning about all of the history and all of the literature in the whole wide world since humans figured out how to write! I learn a lot teaching this class each year and look forward to working with Mr. Lyons to get to know you all and look at what many different cultures have proposed as an answer to the question, "What is the Good Life?"
I started teaching at Kennedy in 2004. I currently teach tenth grade Honors World Literature, Pre-AP English 1, and English 9. I have taught English 10, Film Studies, Teen Literature, Mythology, and African American Literature. I advise the Kennedy Guitar Club and love most music (except for that noise you kids listen to), and I also advise Kennedy Green Club because I'm passionate about environmentalism.
Before coming to Kennedy, I taught high school English for three years in Brooklyn, New York. From 1996-2001, I worked for the Brooklyn Public Library in the Adult Literacy Program.
I earned a Masters in Secondary English Education from Brooklyn College in 2003, a Masters in English Literature from New York University in 1995, and a B.A. in English from Rutgers University in 1990. I live in Saint Louis Park with my wife, two daughters, one cat, one dog, and six fish. I insist that pop is called soda!
I'm a bit of a ham.
