Tier 1 Evidence-Based Instructional Materials and Programs

Hastings Public Schools selects evidence-based core curriculum instructional materials and ensures training for all staff in the use of these materials. This review process includes authentic collaboration with the students, families, and communities being served. The instructional materials in the table below (or linked) have undergone a sequential review process that ensured evaluation for:

Alignment to Minnesota Academic or Early Learning standards and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies.
Embedded evidence-based instructional strategies.
Culturally and linguistically sustaining.
Inclusion of multiple perspectives and identities.
Recognition of bias in upholding stereotypes.

The Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum is a structured, daily program designed to develop students’ phonological and phonemic awareness skills through quick, explicit, and systematic oral activities.

UFLI Foundations is a comprehensive, systematic phonics curriculum that provides explicit instruction in foundational reading skills, emphasizing the science of reading to support early literacy development.

Wit + Wisdom

Wit & Wisdom is a knowledge-building literacy curriculum that integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening through the study of rich, content-based texts across disciplines.

Bridges Mathematics Curriculum

The Bridges in Mathematics curriculum and Number Corner are comprehensive, standards-based programs that integrate problem solving, visual models, and hands-on activities to build deep mathematical understanding in students from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Amplify Science

Amplify Science is a K–8 curriculum that blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to engage students in scientific inquiry and build deep understanding of core science concepts.

Second Step: Social Emotional Curriculum

The Second Step SEL curriculum is a research-based program that teaches social-emotional skills such as empathy, emotion management, and responsible decision-making to help students succeed in school and life.
