The PAST is comprehensive, evaluating 14 aspects of the development of Phonological Awareness. It was designed as an informal, individual assessment, with a total of 84 words on the test. Some of the skills evaluated are typically mastered by Pre-K students, such as sentence segmentation and rhyme, while other skills the test are achieved by first or second grade students, such as phoneme deletion and substitution, which makes this test valuable for the early grades in elementary.
Students should be proficient up to the following levels at each grade:
Kindergarten: Isolation of Initial Sound, subtest 7
First grade: Phoneme Deletion of Final Sound, subtest 12
he UFLI Intervention Placement Tool is a resource designed to help educators accurately determine the appropriate entry point for students within the UFLI Foundations intervention program. By assessing students' current decoding and phonics skills, the tool ensures that instruction begins at the right level, maximizing the effectiveness of the intervention and promoting targeted, skill-based reading support.
The Core Phonics Survey is a phonics assessment that is utilized to diagnose a student's strengths and instructional needs in phonics and decoding skills. It helps identify which key phonics skills students know and which require additional instruction and support. It starts by assessing letter sound knowledge and CVC word acquisition, it progresses through more complex phonetic patterns, prefixes and suffixes and multisyllabic words.
For students in intervention we've created a CORE data tracking sheet that provides space to record data on multiple attempts at each section of the assessments.
The CBMreading assessment is a 1:1 assessment that measures a student’s oral reading fluency. It gives a measure on student accuracy with decoding, sight words etc., as well as, automaticity (rate - words per minute).
These assessments can be found on the Fastbridge website but are also housed in the folder linked here.
CBMreading comprehension questions can be found within Fastbridge. There are two sets of comprehension questions. The first gauge's a student's ability to summarize or recall the important details of the passage. The second are specific questions that require a student to recall specific details and synthesize the information from a passage. The document linked will provide a step by step guide on administering this part of the assessment.
