OUR VALUES - Friendship - Honesty - Kindness - Respect - Trust
Here we are dressed up or down with some of our own favourite books.
We had great fun reading lots of them together.
Thanks for sending them in :)
As part of our Book Week celebrations we each met a partner from P4 three times this week for paired reading sessions.
We visited their classroom one day. They came to the library with us the next time. Finally we read in their classroom.
Thank you P4 for being such fabulous reading buddies!!
Happy Mother's Day on Sunday!
We used Kandinsky's Concentric Circles as our inspiration to create our own concentric shape art as our gifts to you.
We hope you love them!
Look out for some fun reading challenges in your homework bag from the Nessie Natter Reading Group this week. Enjoy!
15.2.24
We used our creative skills with pastels and paint to create and cut our wax resist jellyfish, using shades of green, blue or purple. They have joined the fish in our ocean.
10.2.24
This week we were investigating some traditions of celebrating the Lunar New Year.
We loved creating our own dragon puppets and using them in our dragon dances together, developing our co-operation and teamwork skills as we scared away any evil spirits.
We enjoyed discovering the meaning behind some of the celebration foods and having our own little celebration with Chinese pot-sticker dumplings and mandarins. We are hoping they bring us good luck and make us wealthy this year!
We created our own beautiful lanterns in the lucky colour red. We explored the story behind the animals of the Chinese zodiac. We had a go at writing our own Chinese characters. We worked with our talk partners to test all of our knowledge in an online quiz and we all remembered so much!
3.2.24
We had fun using thick layers of pastel to create our fish and exploring wax resist as we washed them with a thin layer of paint.
A huge well done to our Scots Poetry competition finalists who did a fabulous job of performing in assembly in front of the whole school!
26.2.24
A few moments from our learning this week, including weaving our own tartan for Burn's Day.
19.1.24
The vets was busy this week! We are continuing to learn about the role of a vet, how they help animals and how we can look after animals ourselves.
Happy 2024!!
During the first week of term many of the class have demonstrated an interest in animals in their play.
To support this and extend our learning we have created a vets role play area. The children have mindmapped what they already know about vets and what else they would like to learn more about them.
We joined our friends in P1 and P2 for our Christmas Party.
We enjoyed dancing and games in the hall.
We were all very excited and delighted that Santa was able to visit us at our party!
All three classes had our party food together too!
15.12.23
We have worked very hard over the last few weeks with our friends in P1 and P2 to prepare and perform our McTivity show. We've been busy creating our crowns, learning our actions, perfecting our singing and developing our confidence to perform in front of an audience. We all earned Nessie Knighthoods for our hard work. We hope you enjoyed the show.
Here are some of us in action. We missed those of you who were absent.
The story of The Snowman was our inspiration for writing this week.
We enjoyed thinking and writing about what might make our own snowman melt.
As well as getting out the glitter to make our own snowman cards.
We have been learning about pattern in maths and used our skills to design our own repeat patterns around the border of our Christmas placemats, ready for our party next Tuesday.
We enjoyed a delicious, fun, festive lunch together this week! We remembered to say thank you to the catering team who all look after us so well. Some of us even made thank you cards for them.
Friday 8th December
We have been working independently as well as developing our skills in working with a partner while we identify and blend our focus sounds.
Friday 1st December
We were excited to turn our calendar to December this Friday and all helped to decorate our class tree! The children have covered it in lots of beautiful decorations created themselves. They have demonstrated fantastic design and scissor skills.
Thursday 9th November
We enjoyed our trip to the cinema to see Puss In Boots! The bus was lots of fun! Thank you very much to our parent helpers. It was great to have you join us!
Festivals
This term we have been learning about how we celebrate and stay safe at Halloween and on Bonfire Night.
Thursday 26th October
Good Morning. We are missing you all in school today. Click on the learning grid to the left for learning opportunities for P1 and below for learning opportunities for P2.
Have fun and stay cosy at home. We are looking forward to having you back in as soon as we can.
w/b 11.9.23
We enjoyed our Ness Castle Karate Club taster session on Thursday.
Children who were interested in joining the club have brought home an information letter. There's a copy here for anyone else who would like the details.
w/b 4.9.23
Look how hard we've been working on building relationships with our classmates, co-operating, turn taking, number formation, balancing skills and sensory play.
In Maths we have been exploring measurement, drawing lines of different length and comparing them. We talked about which was longer, shorter, bigger. P2s were beginning to use objects to measure the lines. We talked about the tricky word – ‘accurate’. We realised that we need to use the same kind of objects to measure correctly, if we mix up the dominoes and teddies and cubes all are answers are different!
w/b 28.8.23
Exploring books with our new classmates. We love a good story in P1/2!
P1/2 have been finding lots out about each other over our first weeks together through Circle Times and games. Some of the class chose to design and carry out their own surveys, using tally marks to record their results.
In PE we have been developing our skills in:
moving in different ways
sharing space
listening to instructions
learning new games
working in pairs and teams
We'll draw these every term so we'll be able to see how our pen control and drawing skills develop over our year together.
Our First Week Together in P1/2
Beginning to build relationships and having fun in our new spaces.
Nessie Knights
Well done to Charlotte - our first P1/2 Nessie Knight!
Our first day in P1/2!
"Say cheese!!"
