Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a lovely break. We are thrilled to present the Year 4 curriculum newsletter for the autumn term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during the second half of the term.
This half term in English, the children will be basing their writing on the core text 'Who Let the Gods Out' by Maz Evans. The children will have opportunities to use descriptive language and create dialogue which they will use in a 1st person recount of the text.
In Maths, the children will be mastering their fluency skills on their times tables. They will be using their knowledge of known times tables to identify patterns and use reasoning to solve problems. We will also be exploring different ways to find and compare the area of shapes.
In Science this half term, their topic is Electricity. We will learn about different ways electricity can be generated. Children will explore how circuits work and have the opportunity to create their own.
This half term the children will take an in-depth study of Greece and comparison with the UK. Within this they will be looking at physical features, population and climates. The children will also be indentifying how Greece has changed over time focusing on physical and human features.
In Computing, year 4 will be using Logo and learning to understand the programming language used. This will enable them to develop the ability to compose algorithms for drawing mathematical structures and turn them into Logo code.
RE will focus on Christianity and local places of Christian worship. They will focus on identifying similarities and differences of churches, chapels and cathedrals. We will also look at different church services and worship within Christianity.
This year, PE will be split into two sessions per week to keep in line with the DfE guidance of 90 minutes of PE per week. Year 4 will have an indoor session with coach Stephanie learning gymnastics and an with coach Alfie from Platform, learning how to play cricket.
This half term the children will be linking their geography learning with Food technology. With their shared outcome for the community in Rockliffe's World Cafe. The children will be researching different foods from Greece, creating recipe cards and preparing food using hygiene and food safety standards.
Year 4 will also be researching Greek mosaics and their meanings. Using geometric shapes the children will design their own mosaics.
This half term the children will be learning about tempo through the use of a Hoedown. Looking at beats, tempo, signature notes and melodic patterns.
In French, the children will be learning about using numbers in French, including counting, grouping and variants in singular and plurals.
Within RHE, the children will be looking at personal hygiene, such as brushing teeth, relaxation techniques, developing a growth mindset, and identifying their own strengths.
