Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a lovely break. We are thrilled to present the Year 3 curriculum newsletter for the autumn term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during the second half of the term.
In English, we will be reading the touching story of 'The Wilderness War' to write a persuasive letter. Through this, we will be exploring descriptive language, exploring the effevts of pollution on the environemnt as well as linking this book to our global skill of sustainable development.
In Maths, the children will be recapping then building on their knowledge of multiplication and division and how they relate to one another. They will continue to rehearse using repeated addition and subtraction column methods to solve calculations.
This half term the children will be learning about animals, including humans. Through this, they will distinguish What creates a balanced, healthy diet and what humans needs to consume to stay healthy. They will ultimately discuss the question: 'What does the human body need to survive?
In geography, children will be learning about the geographical features within the UK. They will be developing their understanding of how maps work as well as using maps to define land features. They will research various aspects of the UK and compare in order to discuss the question: 'What makes the cities and counties of the UK geographically unique?
The children will be exploring how digital devices have changed the way we work. From this, we will learn about the physical components of a network, input/output devices and how digital devices can be connected. They will also be looking at how coding works and create an interactive scene.
This half term in R.E, the children will be exploring the religion of Christianity. They will look at why the Bible is important to Christians and what it teaches Christians. They will be answering the assessment question: What does the Bible teach us about Christianity?
This year, PE will be split into two sessions per week to keep in line with the DfE guidance of 90 minutes of PE per week. Year 3 will have an indoor session focusing on the skills within gymnastics and an outdoor session of multiskills and teamwork
The children will be developing their skills of cookign and vreating food throughout our Food Fortnight where they will make Polish pierogies. Then they will be planning and creating pulleys.
The children will be using Charanga to consider how music can help us resolve friendship issues as well as making peace with any conflicts.
In French, the children will begin to learn about the country France as well as begin to learn how to say animals in French as well as following classroom instructions.
The children will identify how to relax and the techniques they can follow, explore a healthy diet as well as identify what makes a balanced lifestyle.
