Let's celebrate!!!

Context

Many people of different cultures and faiths around the world celebrate various days of significance, ranging from cultural festivals, religious holy days, important birthdates of world leaders and faith founders to commemorative dates. Each celebration has its unique traditions and they share many common themes including family and friends, light and goodwill, food and drinks, gift-giving, prayers, and respect and understanding. Peace in the world will only be achieved with the understanding that all cultures and faiths have equal value.

Task 2: Answer the following questions:

  • How do children celebrate their birthday in your country?

  • Do you think children's birthdays are different now than in the past? Why?

  • Do you think it is important to celebrate birthdays? Why?

  • In your country, are there special ages that people celebrate, for example 18, 21, 100?

  • In your country, are there special songs, games or traditions that happen at a birthday party?

  • Do you like to celebrate your birthday? Why / why not?

  • Do you think it is important to give an expensive present? Why do you think this?

TASK 3: In pairs or groups of 3 / 4 people ) talk about your birthdays or the the birthday of someone you know. Create a conversation explaining your experiences and ask questions to the others so that they explain their own experiences too. Remember to mention how people celebrate birthdays in other countries and talk about birthday parties.



TASK 5: In small groups, find information about a special festival o celebration that takes place anywhere in the world. Remember to talk about things like:

. When and where it takes place, and how long it lasts for

. What type of celebration it is and / or its origins

. How people celebrate it (decorations, music, food, parades, ...)

. Your opinion about this celebration

And don´t forget to use specific terminology for the topic; use adjectives to describe the event and the people´s feelings about it; use also connectors and the correct verb tenses. You will show your work to your classmates, so that they can learn about it.
