RECYCLING GAMES

Our first didactic unit this year is focused on the importance of recycling and keeping a healthy life style. To promote such values, students have redesigned the materials needed for different team games by recycling common objects such as softener bottles or milk cartons.

The games were the following:

DIDACTIC UNIT 2 YEAR 2021/2022

Plogging

Our second didactic unit was designed to celebrate the World Environment Day (5th June). It sought to foster an environmental conscience as a key to preserve the natural resources around us. Our school is surrounded by breathtaking nature and our students were so eager to do something related to it. This is why we created this didactic unit focused on a new trend: Plogging.

The Guadalhorce river is two streets away from the school so we decided to contact the City Hall and plan a day out to clean the banks of the river and collect as much waste as possible.

To do it, student have created a nifty nabber or grabber in technology classes, they have decorated it in Art and we have gone to the river to clean it up as part of the PE program.

Here are some pictures and videos of the whole experience

DIDACTIC UNIT 1   YEAR 2020/21

LIFE IN PERSPECTIVE

Our first Didactic Unit for 2º ESO deals with perspective and geometry.

Our daily life is surrounded by geometry. Whether we look into nature, art, sport or daily objects, everything can be reduced to a  specific geometrical shape. Bearing this in mind, our students have approached geometry through our bilingual subjects by using an integrated perspective.

TECHNOLOGY

Apart from studying geometry from a formal point of view, including the geometry found in the mosaics of the Alhambra, we have connected it to PE classes. Students have discovered the geometrical features of a badminton court and have created different models reflecting both the lines and the shapes of the court.

In addition to this, they have designed gigantic TANGRAM shapes that will be used in PE lessons for a final competition involving the creation of sport shapes.

Tangram is a traditional Chinese geometrical puzzle consisting of a square cut into seven pieces which can be arranged to make various other shapes. Using tangrams gives students an opportunity to use a manipulative set to construct understanding of geometric ideas. Using tangrams can help students develop spatial skills. They can move the pieces around to note the relationships, and learn about flips, slides and turns (reflections, rotations, and translations).

art

Students have been working on different perspectives in art. They have created their stars by using different geometrical forms and their own creativity to put into practice everything they have learnt related to shapes and geometry.

PE

PE has faced this integrated unit by studying the shapes of different shapes related to sport. Following this line, students have analised the geometry found in different sport courts and fields together with some sport equiptment like tennis raquets or balls.

Additionally, students have enrolled in a competition with the tangram shapes that were designed in technology and decorated in art class. In this occasion, they have followed our assistant's instructions in English and have competed to created different shapes related to different sports:  a football player, a tennis player, etc... They had loads of fun!!!!

Here you have some more videos to see how well they did.

Spanish

Linguistic subjects have also cooperated to provide students with a more global insight into our whole didactic unit. In this case, students have been working on a visual dictionary, relating daily objects to geometrical shapes .

didactic unit 2 2020/2021

circus

Our second didactic unit in 2º ESO has dealt with movement and color this time. Students have imagined they belonged to a travelling circus that entertained their audience with their own show.

First, in Technology lessons, they have created the props they were going to use for their show. These props include juggling rings and juggling balls.

They have also recorded the process and have presented it in English, showing us in detail how to create the juggling balls. Here are some examples of the videos they made:

In Art classes they have also developed their creativity using famous paintings related to the Circus. This is why they have reinterpreted paintings such as "Arlequin" by Picasso, focused on the theme of our unit.

Finally, they had to put on a show. So they recorded their juggling in PE classes using their paintings as a background.

Cártama's recycling games

Due to the success in previous years, this year we have worked on the same integrated didactic units. In this case, our students in 2nd CSE have worked on creating traditional games by using recycled elements and have played them in PE. here are some pictures of the experience. (whole didactic unit explained above)
