The conference officially kicks off with a plenary talk followed by an opening reception at on Sunday evening. The keynote speaker will be Marquetta L. Goodwine, aka “Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation”. Queen Quet has received numerous national and international awards for her tireless work on behalf of the historic Gullah Nation on the Sea Islands of South Carolina. Environmental protection is among her key concerns towards the goal of preserving the Gullah culture.
