1) Spelling:

Red words: Red words are those words that cannot be sounded out phonetically and do not follow any particular phonemic rule. They are also called 'unfair' words because they just need to be memorised.

Speed read the red words on the PowerPoint.

Task 1: Practise spelling some of the red words by using the pyramid spelling strategy as seen in the picture.

Task 2:

Fill your page with drawings of crayons as seen in the picture. Fill the middle of the crayons with the spelling words below. These words will help you with your reading and writing task.

  • holiday

2) Reading:

Task: Click on the link to listen to the story 'The day the crayons came home'. Draw a circle and split it into 6 parts. Choose 6 of the crayons and draw a picture of them and note down why they aren't happy.

3) Writing:


Task: Duncan lost many of his crayons. Imagine you are a crayon from his crayon box and he lost you. Write a post card to Duncan explaining where he lost you and what happened to you. Use your imagination!

Task 1- A timed challenge:

Below is a table of activities for you to try to do within set times. First, guess how many times you will be able to do the activity and then go for it. Below is a minute and 30 second timer to help you.

Task 2- My day diary:

How do you spend your day? How about creating a diary of your day? Use pictures to show what you did and a clock to show the time that they happened. There are three examples below for you to choose from.

Task 3- What time is it?

Read the time on the analogue clocks below. Can you write how these times would look on a digital clock?

Remember: On both analogue and digital clocks, the hour comes first (small hand) and then the minutes (big hand).

Task 4: Matching Clocks:

Read the time on the analogue clocks and match with the same time on the digital clocks.

Remember: After half past the hour, it is important to remember the minutes are counting down to the next hour. You must take care when writing the hour, as the example shows, it's possible that the small hand has already moved to the next hour but you know that this isn't right.

Task 3- Polar bear adaptations:

Watch the clips to learn about the polar bears adaptations. Draw a picture of a polar bear in the middle of your page and explain the different adaptations around it.

Task 4-Watching a Welsh television programme:

After watching the 'Boom!' programme, write a report about it answering the questions below.

  1. Beth ydych chi wedi ei ddysgu o'r rhaglen? / What have you learnt from the programme?

Mae'r cwmni 'Real SFX' yn y rhaglen yn creu eira ffug ar gyfer setiau ffilm. Beth am greu eira ffug a chreu Antarctica bach eich hunain?

Additional activity:

The 'Real SFX' company in the programme creates fake snow for movie sets. Why not create fake snow and make your own little Antarctica?
