Information for parents and carers
Personalised assessments are statutory for learners in Years 2 to 9 in maintained schools in Wales. The assessments for Numeracy (Procedural), Numeracy (Reasoning) and Reading are available throughout the year for schools to use to support learners to make progress.
The purpose of these assessments is to find out children’s strengths and areas for improvement so that their teachers can help them develop their skills.
After your child has completed a personalised assessment, their teacher can see feedback on their skills and progress which helps the teacher to plan the next steps for your child’s learning.
Schools will consider the most appropriate timing and methods for sharing information on learners’ reading and numeracy skills, including the feedback from personalised assessments. Schools are encouraged to share the information with parents/carers whilst the information is current, however some schools may decide to wait until later in the school year, for example at a parents evening, to discuss how your child is progressing based on feedback from one or more assessments and the teacher’s observations of your child’s learning.
Personalised assessments are taken on-line and are adaptive, meaning that questions are selected based on the responses to previous questions. This provides a tailored assessment experience for each learner and will help all learners develop their skills through understanding what they can do, the things they may need to work on, and their next steps.
The assessments provide schools with information on the skills of individual learners, groups and whole classes.
There is no set time of year or ‘assessment window’ for personalised assessments, the timing is decided by the school.
Learners can take the assessments in small or large groups, depending on the school’s preferences and facilities.
Learners must do the assessments once during the academic year. Schools also have the option to use the assessment once more during the academic year.
Mae asesiadau personol yn statudol i ddysgwyr ym Mlynyddoedd 2 i 9 mewn ysgolion a gynhelir yng Nghymru. Mae'r asesiadau ar gyfer Rhifedd (Gweithdrefnol), Rhifedd (Rhesymu) a Darllen ar gael drwy gydol y flwyddyn i ysgolion eu defnyddio i gefnogi dysgwyr i wneud cynnydd.
Pwrpas yr asesiadau hyn yw darganfod cryfderau a meysydd i'w gwella fel y gall eu hathrawon eu helpu i ddatblygu eu sgiliau.
Ar ôl i'ch plentyn gwblhau asesiad personol, gall ei athro weld adborth ar ei sgiliau a'i gynnydd sy'n helpu'r athro i gynllunio'r camau nesaf ar gyfer dysgu eich plentyn.
Bydd ysgolion yn ystyried yr amseriad a'r dulliau mwyaf priodol ar gyfer rhannu gwybodaeth am sgiliau darllen a rhifedd dysgwyr, gan gynnwys yr adborth o asesiadau personol. Anogir ysgolion i rannu'r wybodaeth gyda rhieni/gofalwyr tra bo'r wybodaeth yn gyfredol, ond efallai y bydd rhai ysgolion yn penderfynu aros tan yn ddiweddarach yn y flwyddyn ysgol, er enghraifft mewn noson rieni, i drafod sut mae eich plentyn yn symud ymlaen ar sail adborth o un neu fwy o asesiadau ac arsylwadau'r athro am ddysgu eich plentyn.
Derbynnir asesiadau personol ar-lein ac maent yn addasol, sy'n golygu bod cwestiynau'n cael eu dewis yn seiliedig ar yr ymatebion i gwestiynau blaenorol. Mae hyn yn darparu profiad asesu wedi'i deilwra ar gyfer pob dysgwr a bydd yn helpu pob dysgwr i ddatblygu eu sgiliau trwy ddeall beth y gallant ei wneud, y pethau y gallai fod angen iddynt weithio arnynt, a'u camau nesaf.
Mae'r asesiadau'n rhoi gwybodaeth i ysgolion am sgiliau dysgwyr, grwpiau a dosbarthiadau cyfan unigol.
Nid oes amser penodol o'r flwyddyn na 'ffenestr asesu' ar gyfer asesiadau personol, mae'r ysgol yn penderfynu ar yr amseru.
Gall dysgwyr sefyll yr asesiadau mewn grwpiau bach neu fawr, yn dibynnu ar ddewisiadau a chyfleusterau'r ysgol.
Rhaid i ddysgwyr wneud yr asesiadau unwaith yn ystod y flwyddyn academaidd. Mae gan ysgolion hefyd yr opsiwn i ddefnyddio'r asesiad unwaith eto yn ystod y flwyddyn academaidd.
