Huron School District Attendance Policy

The Huron School District Attendance Policy was formed to encourage students to be present in their classes to attain maximum benefit from classroom activities.  There is a direct correlation between good attendance, academic success and acceptance of responsibility.  In order to support the best educational learning environment, the following attendance rules are in effect in the Huron School District.

The number of absences per trimester is a maximum of seven (7) days.  All absences will count toward the 7 days; however extreme circumstances such as extended illness requiring hospitalization and serious injury may need additional review.

Students will be allowed to make up work as a result of an absence or a suspension.  Responsibility for making up work rests with the student.  The period of time to make up work will not exceed the number of days absent, and the absence or suspension will not alter dates of assignments previously announced.  Individual building attendance policies may vary slightly for age appropriateness.

Huron Schools participates in the “Erase Truancy” program with the Wayne County Prosecutor's office.

ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS

Parents are required to contact the school office when their child will be absent from school.

Attendance is vitally important to a student’s success in school.  

When absences exceed seven days without reasonable excuse, parents will receive written notification.  

Unless there is an emergency, students are expected to arrive on time and stay in school the whole day.  Late arriving students are to report to the school office.  

Students absent during the school day cannot attend after-school activities.
