A WORLD TORN ASUNDER
A once-shattered world now reunited, the plane of Alara was broken apart in an event known as The Sundering. Each shard of the plane was cut off from two key leylines of mana, and over time these shards evolved to reflect the mana imbalance. The shards (Esper, Jund, Bant, Naya, and Grixis) had unique 3-color identities, and evolved to showcase the unique nature of worlds without a full body of mana. Esper became a world of mathematical perfection and filigree-infused mages, Jund became a place of great dragons and ravenous beasts, Bant became a peaceful land of order and harmony, Naya became a world where nature flourished over all else, and Grixis became a land of endlessly repeating undeath. However, after millenia, all of the shards were reunited during The Conflux, when a massive maelstrom of mana influenced by Nicol Bolas united back into one world once again.
