Introduction
This deck was made because it has a personal meaning to Mr Hills (me) . This was one of the decks used when I played competitively, and I have made them again so other people can experience what MTG was like at the time, and can share my passion for the game.
This deck list specifically was taken from Michael Jacob and modified slightly, and was played during the 2009 standard worlds tournament.
Key Strategy
The Crypt Demigod deck focuses on filling your graveyard with powerful creatures to take advantage of Crypt of Agadeem and other graveyard synergies. By milling and discarding creatures, you can generate substantial mana with Crypt of Agadeem and reanimate your threats with various cards, creating a powerful and explosive deck strategy.
Early Game Setup
In the early game, your primary goal is to fill your graveyard and set up for powerful plays. Hedron Crab, Memory Sluice, and Tome Scour are key cards that help you mill your library and fill your graveyard with valuable creatures. Monstrous Carabid and Architects of Will provide additional mill effects while also serving as useful early plays.
Graveyard Utilization
The deck’s core strategy revolves around utilizing your graveyard to fuel Crypt of Agadeem and reanimation effects. Crypt of Agadeem becomes a major source of mana by tapping into the number of black creatures in your graveyard, allowing you to cast your most powerful spells.
Reanimation and Value Plays
Demigod of Revenge: This card excels in a graveyard-focused strategy, as having multiple Demigods in your graveyard allows one to bring back others when it’s cast. This can lead to a powerful board presence and overwhelming your opponent with a swarm of Demigods.
Extractor Demon: Its unearth ability allows you to reanimate creatures from your graveyard, while also serving as a way to refill your graveyard with more resources for future plays.
Mid-Game Control and Synergies
As the game progresses, use Grim Discovery to return key creatures from your graveyard to your hand or to return lands to ensure you can keep up with your mana requirements. Fatestitcher provides additional utility by allowing you untap your Crypt of Agadeem, potentially adding a lot of mana and getting an explosive turn..
Late-Game Finisher
In the late game, Worm Harvest provides a powerful way to generate a horde of Worm tokens, capitalizing on your graveyard for additional value. This can serve as a potent finisher alongside your other reanimated threats.
Defensive and Utility Cards
To protect your strategy and maintain control, Sedraxis Specter offers discard effects that can disrupt your opponent while providing a flying threat. Viscera Dragger helps you cycle through your deck and provides a reliable creature to bring back from the graveyard.
Personal Touch
This deck holds a special place for me, Mr. Hills, as it reminds me of high school memories and the challenges faced against a friend’s deck. The unique strategy of milling and reanimating creatures offers a distinctive and enjoyable approach to Magic, making it a memorable choice for players who appreciate unconventional strategies.
Closing the Game
The ultimate goal of the deck is to leverage your graveyard resources and Crypt of Agadeem to unleash powerful threats and finish the game. By effectively managing your graveyard and utilizing key cards like Demigod of Revenge and Extractor Demon, you can dominate the battlefield and secure victory with a well-crafted, resourceful strategy.
