Introduction
This deck was made because it has a personal meaning to Mr Hills (me) . This was one of the decks used when I played competitively, and I have made them again so other people can experience what MTG was like at the time, and can share my passion for the game.
This deck list specifically was taken from Taufik Indrakesuma, and was played during the Grand Prix Manila Standard Format in 2010.
Key Strategy
The Polygenitus deck revolves around a straightforward yet powerful combo strategy. The key goal is to quickly generate tokens or expendable creatures, then use Polymorph to transform one of these tokens into the devastating Progenitus—a nearly unstoppable creature.
In the early game, your primary focus is on setting up your board with token generators and ramping up your mana. Cards like Awakening Zone and Khalni Garden are crucial as they create tokens that can later be sacrificed to Polymorph. Additionally, Everflowing Chalice serves as a valuable mana accelerant, helping you cast your spells and activate your abilities faster. Halimar Depths and Ponder are essential for ensuring you find your combo pieces quickly. These cards allow you to dig through your deck to find Polymorph or Progenitus, as well as to set up your library for the perfect Polymorph turn.
The central strategy of the deck is to use Polymorph to target one of your expendable creatures, such as a token from Awakening Zone or Khalni Garden. Since Progenitus is the only creature in the deck, Polymorph will always transform your token into this powerful creature. Progenitus is a 10/10 creature with protection from everything, meaning it can't be targeted, blocked, or dealt damage by anything your opponent controls. Once you get Progenitus onto the battlefield, you are usually just a few attacks away from winning the game.
While setting up your combo, it’s crucial to protect yourself and disrupt your opponent's strategy. Deprive and Negate offer strong counterspell protection, ensuring your opponent can’t stop your Polymorph or remove Progenitus if it hits the board. Into the Roil is a versatile tool that can either bounce problematic permanents your opponent controls or serve as a cantrip to draw you closer to your combo pieces. Spreading Seas not only disrupts your opponent’s mana base but also provides card draw to keep your hand full. Jace, the Mind Sculptor is a powerful addition to this deck, providing additional card advantage, board control, and a way to manipulate your library. Jace's +2 ability lets you look at the top card of your opponent's library, giving you valuable information, while his 0 ability digs through your deck to find your key pieces.
Once you’ve successfully cast Polymorph and brought Progenitus into play, your win condition is straightforward: attack and end the game quickly. Progenitus' protection from everything makes it almost impossible for your opponent to deal with, giving you a strong path to victory. Overall, the deck's strategy revolves around assembling the pieces for your combo, protecting it with counterspells, and overwhelming your opponent with the unstoppable Progenitus.
